Increase your skillset: finding your dream-job after the pandemic

How to start or restart your carreer after the crises? Now, our expert will let you know some techniques and advises to help you.
Let’s start this article with optimism: yes, the pandemic is still here but so is the vaccine, and hopefully in some months, things will slowly start to go back to normal. However, the new normal will be different!

Let’s start this article with optimism: yes, the pandemic is still here but so is the vaccine, and hopefully in some months, things will slowly start to go back to normal. However, the new normal will be different: industries have changed and the pandemic has forced companies to keep up with the new scenario. If you want to land a dream-job or increase the potential and value of your skillset, this is the right place for you.

Although the idea can be scary, one can dare to look at it with hope: this is a perfect opportunity not only to get a job that allows you to grow as a professional and to expand your skillset, but also, if you’re thriving with the idea of change, to even reformulate your whole professional self. This article is the first instalment about basic and easy-to-follow tips to landing a dream-job in a post-pandemic era.

Let’s say that you just graduated or that you have been working for a short period of time: all your professional hopes, dreams, and aspirations are at reach now, even more so in this situation on which everything is (or should be) done online, so you don’t even need to leave the comfort of your couch to land a nice job or pursue growth in the one you have.

However, it is very possible that job-seeking (and finding!) is a bit harder now: due to the pandemic, some fields are struggling to survive, whereas others are thriving, and if you’re in the wrong end of the exchange, panic might be building up already. In the same sense, your industry might be in a rut, struggling to survive before new challenges. Perhaps, this was different when you started your studies, just a few years ago, but since the situation has changed, so should you.

    1. Check the landscape

First of all, try to relax a little. Take a deep breath, focus on our vision of the future, and, as with everything else in life, just Google it. Ask the uncomfortable questions. What is happening in your industry? Is it growing or plummeting? If you were interested in a company, check it out: how is it doing? Are they looking for candidates? Will they in the foreseeable future? If not, where else would you like to work? Ask, ask, and ask. Check every possibility within reach and immerse yourself in knowledge. Don’t be contempt with sending a generic CV to every company under the “just-in-case” mindset and waiting. Be strategic.

Now, what if you find something terrifying? What if your industry is struggling? What if they’re asking for skills that you don’t have? Along comes step 2:

    2. Ask not what your field can do for you, but what you can do for your field

New scenarios, for those daring to look, arrive with new opportunities. So, check the field: What is gone? What is missing? What are companies looking for now? Are there unfulfilled needs that should be addressed? Are there new skills required? Can you make yourself more valuable to the new corporate landscape? Can you Google or YouTube new skills? What is preventing you from doing so?

Wait, hold on a second. Am I telling you that after 4 or 5 years at University, plus 2 years of Master’s, with endless hours of sleep gone in nights of study, you still need to keep doing homework? Well, yes. Luckily, yes. Hear me out: if you’re reading this, chances are that your field is in constant evolution, therefore so should you. Learning is a never-ending process and we’re lucky enough to be alive on a time on which all the information we need is one Google search away and (most likely) for free. So, check out your field, identify the demands and get ready to provide the supply.

So far, so good. If you’re interested in continuing your path towards growth and pushing your career, in the next instalment you will find the final steps to follow. Until then, keep it up!
